Over 1,600 Trucks Waiting at the 'Verin Lars' Checkpoint
At the 'Verin Lars' checkpoint, which operates at the Russian-Georgian border, more than 1,600 trucks are currently waiting to cross. The checkpoint was closed due to weather conditions. According to information from the North Ossetia road traffic organization center, the crossing was shut down on the evening of December 17 due to a high risk of avalanches for vehicles with trailers and semi-trailers, and it reopened on the morning of December 18 after clearing work.
The movement of vehicles was restricted on the section of the international Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars highway between Kobi and Gudauri. It is noteworthy that this military route currently remains the only land corridor connecting Armenia with Russia. During winter, this road is often closed due to adverse weather conditions.
