Unknown Origin Tobacco Floods Armenian Market: 'Joghourt'
'Joghourt' newspaper reports that there have been ongoing alerts regarding the sale of unknown origin tobaccos, especially in rural areas. The attached photographs display two types of boxes that lack labeling.
Sources inform that a single box is sold for 250 drams, which is a very affordable price for individuals living in socially unfavorable conditions. However, the state is suffering enormous losses from this issue due to unpaid taxes and the public danger posed by products of unknown origin. In terms of taxes, we are told that the production taxes for a single box of tobacco amount to 350-400 drams.
There has been no public statement from the competent authorities regarding the exposure of the chains of this illegal business, and it is unclear whether these products are produced locally or imported illegally under anonymous brands.
