‘Zhoghovourd’. Next in line is the mayor of Goris: the government is getting rid of the opposition
'Zhoghovourd' newspaper reports that the authorities have decided to rid themselves of all opposition mayors. As is known, just days ago, the ruling Civil Contract party forcefully took control in Alaverdi and dismissed the mayor representing the 'Living Land' party.
The newspaper has received information that the next target is Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan. Although he has recently changed his attitude towards Nikol Pashinyan’s government, the Civil Contract party still considers him an opposition figure. They are aiming to subject Arushanyan to the same fate as the mayor of Alaverdi and get rid of him.
Furthermore, officials have instructed law enforcement to initiate proceedings against Arushanyan and investigate his businesses to find any irregularities, thereby paving the way for his removal. It is not difficult to predict how these developments will conclude.
It is worth noting that the Civil Contract party is also targeting the enlarged community of Vardenis, as the opposition group from this border community publicly joined the protests that began on September 19. In this regard, the Civil Contract party held a board meeting on November 1 and announced it would also address this community.
