EU to Toughen Penalties for Illegal Migration
The European Union is working on improving legislation to combat illegal migration and smuggling of people. This was announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during an international conference aimed at tackling organized crime related to migrant smuggling. The information is reported by gazeta.ru.
According to Ursula von der Leyen, it is planned to update the definitions of crimes related to human smuggling, as well as to tighten penalties and expand cooperation with partners and international organizations.
Earlier, it was reported that Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs has prepared a bill proposing the establishment of a controlled residence regime in Russia for foreigners who do not have legal grounds for it. The changes could significantly complicate the lives of visitors by prohibiting their registration with legal entities and individual entrepreneurs, real estate transactions, buying and selling cars, opening bank accounts, making money transfers, and getting married.
