VIDEO: Semi-literate Draftsmen Have Emerged in the Market, Kamo Areyan

During a working consultation at the Yerevan Municipality, the mayor's advisor Kamo Areyan reported on the efforts to coordinate design works with supplier organizations when creating new communications in Yerevan, as well as the final approval of these projects by the suppliers. He announced that there are numerous instances where the design solutions did not match reality.

"This refers to the poor quality of the project. There are many cases where the coordination was done at the initial stage, but there was no follow-up. Coordination has been carried out with the heads of the 'Kaghluy' sections concerning the designs for courtyard areas and parks, comments were received, but the final phase has not been approved. In many cases, the communications specified by the supplier organizations were ignored as a result of preliminary inspections, and throughout the year, there have even been disgraceful cases where the project did not correspond to reality at all, leading to a need for redesign," he detailed.

As an example, he mentioned that a kindergarten is being designed without taking into account additional new capacities, new gas quantities, and new electrical capacities, which causes complications. "All of this has been resolved as a result of collaborative efforts," Areyan said. He made several suggestions: "The technical specifications should be carried out at a high quality, and proposals that do not meet the requirements should not be accepted. We have high-quality projects and high-quality designers. This is relevant to the field of architecture and urban planning. However, in this area, semi-literate draftsmen who simply hold a pencil have emerged in the market. It is astonishing how they received licenses, and all the poor quality and subsequent complications in work arise from the poor quality of the projects. Our request is that these projects not be accepted."
