VIDEO: Prime Minister on Non-Participation in CSTO Meeting
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the decisions made by Armenian officials regarding non-participation in the recent CSTO events. He stated, "We have not rejected participation, but have decided not to attend these events for various reasons. As for our position regarding the CSTO, unfortunately, I must note that the organization has not adequately responded to Armenia's security challenges despite its 'de jure' obligations, and this has happened multiple times."
Commenting on the question posed by opposition lawmaker Agnesa Khamoyan about whether this paves the way for leaving the CSTO, he said, "I am not preparing the ground for anything, because that ground either exists or doesn't—regardless of our preparations." Pashinyan recalled that the CSTO, contrary to its de jure mandatory obligations, has not adequately responded to Armenia's security challenges multiple times: "With all due respect to our partners, we note that it is also unclear to our public why we go every time to repeat the same things without receiving a response, and then we return only to go again in the same manner."
