Khandanyan on the Possibility of Leaving the EEU and CSTO
Armenia is currently not considering the possibility of leaving the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). This statement was made by the chairman of the National Assembly’s Foreign Relations Committee, Sarkis Khandanyan, during a press briefing after a committee meeting.
“At this moment, we are not discussing that issue,” he responded to journalists’ inquiries regarding whether there is a change in the vector of foreign policy.
It is worth noting that unofficial Russian sources have labeled Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's speech at the European Parliament as irresponsible and provocative, particularly in relation to Russia and Armenian-Russian relations.
Recall that on October 17, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke at the plenary session of the European Parliament, accusing the Russian peacekeeping forces and the UN of facilitating the depopulation of Nagorno-Karabakh. He also stated that during the time when hundreds of thousands of Armenians were fleeing from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia, the allies in the security sector were not only not helping Armenia but were also making public calls for a regime change and the overthrow of democratic authority during those days.
