Zelensky Links Hamas Attack on Israel to Russia's Invasion of Ukraine and Criticizes Iran
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has linked the Hamas attack on Israel to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, while criticizing Iran for its involvement in both conflicts.
“The only difference is that there is a terrorist organization that has attacked Israel and a terrorist state that has attacked Ukraine. The declared intentions vary, but the essence is the same,” Zelensky stated via video at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Copenhagen.
“Iran cannot claim it has nothing to do with everything happening in Ukraine if it is selling ‘Shaheds’ (drones) to Russia. Iran cannot claim it is uninvolved in what is happening in Israel if its officials declare support for what is happening there,” Zelensky told Reuters.
Zelensky called for the West to unite: “Now is not the time to retreat into internal disputes on the international stage. It is not the time for isolation. It is not the time to be silent or pretend that terrorism in one continent does not impact global affairs.”
Earlier, reports indicated that Iranian intelligence services helped Palestinian Hamas militants plan the attack against Israel, according to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal. Subsequently, Iran denied its involvement in the planning or execution of the attack on Israel.
