German Authorities Not Yet Ready to Supply Ukraine with Taurus Cruise Missiles
German authorities, according to sources from BILD, are still not prepared to supply Ukraine with Taurus missiles. As reported by Der Spiegel, the German government is examining whether it is possible to transfer long-range Taurus missiles from Bundeswehr stocks to Ukraine in the coming months.
At the same time, officials from the German Ministry of Defense have reportedly made an unusual request to the manufacturer to include technical limitations on the missile's range. This way, the German government aims to prevent potential attacks by Ukrainian armed forces on Russian territory using German missiles.
However, at the Ministry of Defense, as disclosed to BILD by one of the senior officials, they are not yet ready to announce that a decision has been made to transfer missiles to Ukraine. “There has been no change in the situation regarding the transfer of Taurus to Ukraine. No political decision has been made on the transfer,” said a representative of the military department.
Meanwhile, in recent weeks, Ukrainian authorities have been requesting Berlin to supply Taurus cruise missiles so they can strike targets located behind the front lines. The aircraft-launched Taurus missile can travel over 350 kilometers, and its warhead, weighing over 400 kilograms, is designed to target hard-to-reach objectives.
Since May, the Ukrainian Air Force has already had two types of similar cruise missiles: the British Storm Shadow and the French SCALP.
