Nighttime Lighting in Yerevan to Be Extended by One Hour Starting August 1: Details on Upcoming Changes

The capital has two lighting modes: summer and winter. In winter mode, Yerevan is illuminated until midnight, while in summer, this extends to 1 AM. According to the new decision, these times will be extended by one hour.

Starting August 1, nighttime lighting in Yerevan will be extended by one hour. This was announced today, July 26, by Andranik Tevosyan, the director of Yerevan Municipality's "Yerkaghluy'' company, during a press conference at the Armenpress press hall.

According to Tevosyan, the main goal is to ensure the safety of citizens. He is confident that this will improve the quality of life for residents.

“We are replacing old sodium lamps with new LED lighting fixtures, which allow for savings. As a result, we are able to extend the operating hours,” he mentioned.

Over the past six months, more than 5,500 lighting fixtures have been replaced with energy-saving options. Currently, the Nubarashen administrative district is fully equipped with energy-efficient LED lights.

Tevosyan emphasized that this is a comprehensive effort. “We have certain agreements regarding smart lighting solutions, as well as the modernization of remote control panels, which we have already started. We will transition from the old Soviet ‘pultavoy’ system to a new remote control system, work for which has already begun.”

He also highlighted that thanks to a pilot program, the new remote control system is more advanced and will display power loads, making outages visible immediately, allowing for faster responses. This will help prevent cases of power theft, for instance. He also mentioned that efforts are underway to build solar stations to supply Yerevan with solar energy.
