I Demand the Restoration of My Powers from the Court: Taguhi Tovmasyan
Independent MP Taguhi Tovmasyan has filed a lawsuit demanding the restoration of her powers as the head of the Human Rights Protection Committee. She made this announcement today, July 24, during a briefing.
"I demand the court to restore my powers because that process was entirely illegal. I have been deprived of the right to be heard, which is one of the most protected rights in the world," said the MP.
The former opposition chair of the Human Rights Protection Committee emphasized that she had previously informed the Speaker of the National Assembly in writing about her incapacity, hoping that the matter concerning her would be postponed.
It is noteworthy that on July 11, with a vote of 62 in favor and 1 against through a closed ballot, the ruling "Civil Contract" faction stripped Tovmasyan of her position as the head of the parliamentary Human Rights Protection Committee. The ruling party justified this by stating that the opposition MP had not participated in the meetings of the National Assembly Council, having missed 38 out of 46 meetings, which negatively affected the committee's work.
