When Will the Academic City Be Ready?
The concept for establishing an Academic City is expected to be approved in September of the current year. This was announced by Lusine Grigoryan, the head of the Department of Higher and Postgraduate Professional Education of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia, during a press conference held at the Armenpress media hall.
“The concept is based on the consolidation of universities. It is planned to have up to 8 universities funded by the state. The following areas have been identified: classical university, medical, arts, education, military, and technological universities. Clusters will be formed in the Academic City, including educational-military, arts, and technological sectors,” said Lusine Grigoryan.
The concept will clearly establish a timeline for the phases of design, construction, and relocation of universities. It is expected that the city will be ready by 2030. There will also be opportunities for private universities operating through inter-governmental agreements to be located in this area. The Academic City will be designed for approximately 44,000 individuals and will have all the necessary infrastructure in place, with transportation routes provided from Yerevan.
A foundation for coordinating and implementing the work has been established under the name of the “Academic City.” Regarding universities located in the regions, Lusine Grigoryan noted that the fate of these institutions is under discussion.
