Serious Healthcare Crisis in Artsakh, Says Anahit Avanesyan

A serious healthcare crisis is unfolding in Artsakh. This was stated by the Minister of Health of Armenia, Anahit Avanesyan, during a conversation with reporters after a cabinet meeting.

She addressed the healthcare crisis created in Artsakh, which is a consequence of Azerbaijan's complete blockade of the Lachin corridor.

“At this moment, there are also patients who need to be transferred to Armenia. I spoke this morning and we expect to carry out the transfer as soon as possible,” the minister noted.

Referring to the supply of medications, the minister indicated that at present, all planned interventions in Artsakh are suspended. All medications and medical products are being used only for urgent and critical needs.

“The pharmaceutical resources in Artsakh are, of course, not unlimited. This situation represents a serious healthcare crisis, as the entire process is disrupted and no new batches of medications are entering Artsakh,” Anahit Avanesyan stated.

The minister added that she is communicating information about the situation to all international partners, both through calls and in writing. “All these facts are also being conveyed to the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, the representative group of Armenia at the European Court, and so on. All of this is also being documented to serve as a basis for potential sanctions later. Currently, the responses are not satisfactory, as the road connecting Artsakh to Armenia is not open,” the minister concluded.
