Russia Takes Adequate Measures in Response to NATO's Possible Expansion - Lavrov

Moscow is taking adequate and preemptive measures in response to the possibility of NATO's (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) expansion. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press conference following talks with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, as reported by TASS.

“We are undertaking adequate and preemptive measures,” Lavrov said, addressing the question of what Russia plans to do regarding NATO's potential membership of new countries, including Ukraine and Sweden.

It is noted that the Russian Federation was astonished by how quickly Finland and Sweden abandoned their neutrality to join NATO.

“Both Helsinki and Stockholm are already discussing many issues with the United States related to the expansion of the alliance's infrastructure, directly along the borders of the Russian Federation in the case of Finland, and very close to our borders in the case of Sweden,” the minister remarked.
