In the 2022-2023 academic year, Turkish was taught in 12 schools in Armenia, while Azerbaijani was taught in 4. This was reported by the Ministry of Education and Science in response to a written inquiry from Sputnik Armenia.
The ministry also emphasized that only students in grades 10-12 study Azerbaijani and Turkish. It was additionally reported that language instruction was organized in 33 educational institutions for the 2022-2023 academic year, with Persian being taught in 13 schools, Georgian in 3, Turkish in 12, and Azerbaijani in 4. The "Mkhitar Gheratsi" educational complex studied all four languages in its middle and high schools.
Moreover, 400 other schools have expressed a desire to begin teaching regional languages (Turkish, Azerbaijani, Georgian, and Persian) in the near future. However, the ministry did not provide information regarding the number of schools that have chosen any specific language.
"The institutions have also provided information on the presence or absence of a specialist. The majority of the interested schools do not have the requisite specialists," the department stated.
