Iran's Foreign Ministry Condemns Quran Burning Incident in Sweden

The official representative of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Kanaani, has announced that the country’s authorities condemn the burning of the Quran in Sweden during the days of Qurban Bayram.

"The desecration of holy books is evidence of recourse to violence and hate rhetoric, contradicting the noble values enshrined in the concept of 'human rights.' The Iranian government and people, like other Muslims and progressive-minded individuals around the world, will not tolerate such an insult and strongly condemn it," Kanaani stated, as reported on the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Telegram channel.

The official representative labeled Sweden's decision to allow the burning of the Quran for a second time, especially during a period associated with the pilgrimage (Hajj) to Mecca and the celebration of Qurban Bayram, as "provocative, reckless, and unacceptable."

Earlier, it was reported that in Sweden, the police permitted the burning of the Quran at a mosque in Stockholm coinciding with the start of Qurban Bayram.

Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson stated that the decision to allow the Quran burning incident is legal, but inappropriate. Morocco has recalled its ambassador from Sweden due to the Quran burning incident.
