General Surovikin Aware of Prigozhin's Rebellion Plans
The deputy commander of Russia's military operations in Ukraine, General Sergey Surovikin, was reportedly aware that Wagner mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin was planning a rebellion against the Russian Ministry of Defense leadership. This was reported by the New York Times.
The publication cited U.S. officials familiar with intelligence, stating they are attempting to determine whether Surovikin assisted in planning Prigozhin's actions.
It is worth noting that on the night of June 24, Wagner fighters seized the headquarters of the Southern Military District located in Rostov-on-Don. Russian President Vladimir Putin referred to the actions of the Wagner group as a 'criminal adventure.'
