Armenian Citizen Attempts to Smuggle Gold into Georgia
An Armenian citizen has attempted to smuggle gold into Georgia, according to a report by Sputnik Georgia, referencing the country's Ministry of Finance.
Efforts to smuggle gold have been thwarted at the Sadakhlo (Armenian-Georgian border) and Sarpi checkpoints (Georgian-Turkish border).
Customs officials discovered 406.8 grams of gold while inspecting the luggage of citizens from Armenia and Russia. The seized item is valued at approximately $15,500.
The case against the Armenian citizen has been forwarded to the investigative department of the Ministry of Finance for further action, while the Russian citizen has been fined $2,300.
