What Are the Civilian Casualties in Ukraine?
Since the invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces, 9,083 civilians have lost their lives according to a new report from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. During the same period, 15,779 civilians have been injured. The majority of casualties have occurred in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, with 4,105 deaths and 5,861 injuries in Ukrainian-controlled areas and 718 deaths and 2,521 injuries in Russian-occupied territories.
Meanwhile, Yuriy Belousov, a representative of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office, stated in a February interview with the British publication The Independent that up to 100,000 civilians could have died during the course of the war.
