Bulgarian 'Agora' Human Rights Group Declared Undesirable in Russia
The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation has declared the Bulgarian 'Agora' human rights group undesirable in the country, as reported by the agency's press service to Interfax.
"Based on the results of the study of received materials, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation has decided to recognize the activities of the Law Sofia Foundation of Bulgaria (Agora International Human Rights Group) as undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation," the Prosecutor General's Office stated on Monday.
The agency clarified that "it has been established that the organization's activities pose a threat to the foundations of the constitutional order and the security of the Russian Federation."
"During its operations, the organization focuses on uncovering and disseminating alleged violations of the rights and freedoms of citizens in Russia, providing legal assistance to opposition figures with a pronounced anti-Russian stance, including supporters of recognized extremist organizations."
Information about this decision has been sent to the Russian Ministry of Justice for inclusion of the organization in the relevant list, the supervisory authority reports.
