Armenia Can Become a Unique Energy Hub in the Region: Pashinyan
Armenia can become a unique energy hub in the region. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during the plenary session of the Eurasian Congress in Sochi.
According to the Prime Minister, strengthening the potential of national economies in the EAEU countries is linked to a competent approach to ensuring energy security. “In light of current geopolitical realities, we need a new approach to the energy agenda. Armenia is currently undergoing a phased transition to the liberalization of its energy market. The country is developing its production capacities and is implementing large-scale reconstruction of electricity transmission lines. The construction of Armenia-Iran and Armenia-Georgia electricity transmission lines will create new opportunities for increasing transit, import, export, or seasonal exchange of electricity,” Pashinyan stated.
He emphasized the importance of achieving carbon neutrality and developing green energy. These issues have a firm place in the energy and economic agenda.
Pashinyan stressed the necessity of maximizing the use of renewable energy potential, noting that it can boost economic growth and contribute to sustainable development in the region. The Prime Minister is confident that investing in this sector can enhance the contribution to the fight against global warming.
In this context, Pashinyan also highlighted the development of nuclear energy, which plays a key role in ensuring the energy independence and security of EAEU countries. He mentioned that Armenia is working on extending the operation of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant and constructing a new energy unit, considering it a priority in the country’s energy policy.
