Switzerland's Senate Approves Arms Re-export to Ukraine While Maintaining Neutrality

The Swiss Senate has approved an amendment to the law which states that the re-export of Swiss arms to countries involved in military conflicts does not contradict the country’s neutrality concept and should be allowed under certain conditions. This was stated in a press release published on the Senate's website.

The decision received support from 22 senators, while 17 voted against it and four abstained.

Now, all countries purchasing Swiss arms are obligated not to re-export them without the manufacturer’s permission. It has been determined that importing countries that 'share Swiss values' may be allowed to resell arms five years later without Switzerland's consent. Additionally, arms can also be resold to countries involved in military conflicts, but only under the condition that it ensures self-defense.

This amendment is now set to be discussed by the second chamber of Parliament, the Swiss National Council.
