Zangezur is land that was 'taken from us' in 1920: Azerbaijani Ambassador in Turkey

“The Zangezur corridor” will connect Turkey and Azerbaijan. The work on the opening of the “corridor” is slowly nearing completion. This was stated by Rashad Mammadov, the Azerbaijani ambassador to Turkey, in an interview with TRT Haber, reported by an APA correspondent in Istanbul.

“Zangezur is land that was 'taken from us' in 1920 during the Soviet era and handed over to Armenia. A wall has been erected on the Azerbaijan-Turkey border; obstacles have been created,” he said.

According to the Azerbaijani ambassador, the distance between Turkey and Azerbaijan will be reduced to 38 kilometers via the “Zangezur corridor,” resulting in “Turkey establishing a connection between the East and the West.”

Mammadov also stated that the “Zangezur corridor” project is essential for Armenia in terms of ensuring its own “security.” “The Zangezur corridor is actually a 'good' project for Armenia’s development, securing its future. Over the past 30 years, Armenia has missed out on numerous projects. If Armenia stays away from this project, it will not have any other projects in the future,” he said.
