Why is the West So Interested in Syunik? 'Fact'
This year, it was announced that the official launch of the 'Resilient Syunik. Team Europe' initiative took place. The 'Fact' newspaper writes about this.
This is a collaborative program of the European Union, the European Investment Bank, and several EU member states, which, according to an official statement, aims to contribute to the 'sustainable socio-economic and institutional development of the Syunik region.'
In January, it was reported that the initial budget for the initiative for the coming 5 years is about 51 million euros. However, about ten days ago, the EU Ambassador to Armenia, Andrea Victorin, announced that the budget has doubled compared to the beginning of the year and amounts to 116 million euros.
Several experts, including those from outside Armenia, have already expressed opinions that this program actually has deeper underlying motives, and the West is not really interested in the development of either the Syunik region or Armenia in general.
For them, the primary goal is to create more favorable conditions for realizing their own geopolitical interests. By the way, some Russian media outlets report that the 'Resilient Syunik. Team Europe' program, among other issues, aims to prepare relevant infrastructure over time for the opening of the so-called 'Zangezur Corridor.'
