Georgia Denies Information on Launch of Maritime Transport to Novorossiysk

The information about the launch of regular maritime transport from Batumi, Georgia, to Novorossiysk does not correspond to reality. According to RIA Novosti, this statement was made by the Georgian Maritime Transport Agency.

Earlier, a message was published on the Facebook page of the Ministry of Economy, stating that the launch of cargo transport via the alternative maritime route Batumi-Novorossiysk had been initiated. It was noted that a trial maritime transport of containerized cargo had already been carried out, during which no significant issues arose. This information was also disseminated by Armenian media.

In a post on the official social media page of the agency, it was stated, “The information spread by Armenian media regarding the commencement of regular maritime transport from Batumi to Novorossiysk, Russia, since April does not correspond to reality.”

It was mentioned that a vessel sailing under the flag of Palau indeed carried out two commercial trips between Batumi and Novorossiysk. However, the agency emphasized that these are not regular routes, but rather commercial trips that are conducted periodically.

“The owning company of the mentioned vessel is not included in the sanctions list and continues to operate commercial routes. Regarding the cargo, it is entirely transshipment and is intended for Armenia,” the agency highlighted.

The agency added that both the Ministry of Finance and the Maritime Transport Agency are conducting ongoing monitoring concerning sanctions on both the vessels and their owners.
