Attempt to Smuggle Prohibited Items into Correctional Facility via Drone
The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia received an alert from an employee of the security department performing duties at the "Sevan" correctional facility about an attempt to smuggle items into the facility using an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone).
According to the Correctional Service, following the alert, a search of the area was conducted, resulting in the discovery of a package secured with adhesive tape on the roof of the penal institution's cell block, attached with a metal hanger.
The package contained 50 pills of Lyrica, a greenish substance weighing 23.9 grams, a white, powdery substance weighing 11 grams, 6.7 grams of a transparent substance, and 5.7 grams of a yellowish crystalline substance, as well as an 8.3-gram black adhesive mass, two syringes each containing a colorless liquid with a strong odor (4.5 mg), three mobile phones, a USB cable, and an empty glass smoking pipe.
The items found have been sent to the Kotayk Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee. A criminal case has been initiated.
