Erdogan's Party Member Dies Near Ballot Box
A member of Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has died at a polling station in the Rize province. This information has been reported by the Milliyet agency.
Şeref Kurt was 64 years old. Doctors have indicated that the cause of death was a heart attack.
"He suffered a heart attack at the polling station and died in the hospital," the publication reports. First aid was provided by citizens and other workers present at the polling station.
It is noteworthy that Turkey is holding nationwide elections today, including presidential and parliamentary elections.
The final list of presidential candidates includes the incumbent president, 69-year-old Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as the unified candidate of the 'Republican Alliance'; the unified candidate of the opposition 'People's Alliance', 74-year-old Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu; and 55-year-old Sinan Oğan, the candidate from the Ata Alliance. The fourth candidate, Muharrem İnce, the leader of the Memleket Party, announced three days prior to the elections that he would withdraw his candidacy.
