Armenia Is Not Receiving Ordered Weapons from Russia, Says Armen Grigoryan

The Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan, has announced that Armenia is not receiving the weapons it ordered from Russia, for which it has already paid.

“The mechanisms that were supposed to ensure Armenia's security have collapsed, and new ones have not been created,” Grigoryan stated in an interview with Novaya Gazeta Europe.

When asked what Yerevan should do in this situation, Grigoryan said, “We need to look for new mechanisms and arms supplies because we are not receiving what we ordered and for which we paid to Russia.”

In response to a clarifying question about whether this refers to the hundreds of millions of dollars contract from 2021 that remains unfulfilled, the Secretary replied, “It is not the only one; there are several similar contracts.”

“We expected the CSTO to function during Azerbaijan's outright aggression in Armenian territory last September. However, it did not work. Yes, there have been discussions about Armenia leaving the CSTO, and this is a natural reaction. Shelling and provocations happen not only when we are negotiating with the West. In 2018, when a revolution occurred in Armenia, we stated that this is an internal democratic process that would not affect foreign policy. And we continued to work with Russia, but it did not guarantee our security; we faced the 2020 war,” Grigoryan noted.

“Since the beginning of December, Armenia has been stating on all international platforms that Azerbaijan has ethnic cleansing plans in Nagorno-Karabakh. Russian peacekeepers are in Nagorno-Karabakh, but people speak of the threat of ethnic cleansing. They have no hope that they will be saved, so the second chance is the international community,” concluded Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan.
