I Am Absolutely Against Its Dismantling: Aghazaryan

The Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has announced that Ankara will take additional measures if the "Nemesis" monument installed in Yerevan is not dismantled.

In an interview with Aysor.am, MP Hovik Aghazaryan from the ruling Civil Contract faction stated that we should not succumb to provocations. "To be honest, I did not particularly welcome that move, meaning the installation of the monument, but I am also absolutely against dismantling the monument due to any external intervention. Of course, I am against removing the monument. I repeat, I was not enthusiastic about that move, but whatever has happened is our internal affair, and therefore I will not tolerate its dismantling as a result of any external intervention," Aghazaryan said.

When asked why he was not enthusiastic about the installation of the monument, Aghazaryan responded: "Given the geopolitical reality we are currently in, I thought it would have been better to do it at a later time."

He also added that the issue has not been discussed within the faction because no such agenda situation has emerged yet. "I do not know what steps Turkey will take in that case. However, whatever measures they take will be an ill-considered step from the perspective of international relations. It would mean that they genuinely intend to use the opportunity of improving relations in the region to satisfy their expansionist aspirations. This is an unacceptable approach," said the ruling party MP.

It should be noted that recently Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the installation of the "Nemesis" monument was a wrong decision.
