Erdogan Accuses Opposition of Supporting LGBT Community, Promises to 'Bury' Opponents at Ballot Boxes
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan yesterday accused the opposition of supporting the LGBT community during a rally in Istanbul and promised to "bury his opponents at ballot boxes." This was reported by Reuters.
"The Justice and Development Party and our coalition's other parties will never be pro-LGBT, as the family is sacred to us. We will bury LGBT supporters at ballot boxes," Erdogan stated.
In recent years, Erdogan has intensified his rhetoric against the LGBT community, often referring to them as "deviant."
It should be noted that Erdogan's pre-election rally in Istanbul yesterday was attended by 1.7 million people. The Turkish presidential elections will take place in a week on May 14.
