Death Toll from Tourist Boat Capsize in India Reaches 21
The death toll from the capsizing of a tourist boat in Tanur, Kerala, India has risen to 21, reports ANI news agency on Monday, citing a security official.
“So far we have recovered 21 bodies. We do not know the exact number of people on board the boat, so we continue to search to determine if there are any other victims,” the agency quoted the words of K.K., an official from the regional fire department.
Several emergency services have arrived at the scene, and rescue operations are ongoing.
It is worth noting that a tourist boat capsized in Tanur on May 7. According to preliminary data from local authorities, there could have been 35 to 40 passengers on the double-decker boat, including children. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the families of the victims on his Twitter page.
