Arab League Foreign Ministers Decide to Reinstate Syria in the Organization
The foreign ministers of the Arab League member countries have decided to reinstate Syria into the organization. This was announced by the official representative of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, Ahmed al-Sahhaf, according to kommersant.ru.
“The council of foreign ministers of the Arab League has decided to restore Syria's place in the Arab League,” he said.
Today, on May 7, an extraordinary meeting of the Arab League's foreign ministers is taking place in Cairo to discuss issues concerning Syria and Sudan. On May 1, foreign ministers from Syria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq held a meeting aimed at resolving the Syrian crisis. These negotiations with Arab countries were the first for Syria since the suspension of its membership in the Arab League. Syria's membership in the Arab League was suspended in November 2011 following the outbreak of armed conflict in the country.
