Weightlifters Will No Longer Be Able to Compete Under Their Country's Flag
Weightlifters will no longer be able to compete under their country's flag. This information was disclosed by the International Weightlifting Federation on the eve of the Asian Championship.
The federation's president, Mohammed Jaloud, stated that the decision was made following the flag-burning incident during the opening ceremony of the European Championship in Yerevan last month.
"We are a sport, we represent peace, not fights and disputes over who is the best," Jaloud said.
According to this decision, the flags will be displayed during the medal ceremony as images on screens, and not in the hands of athletes.
