US: Unlikely that Russia Will Use Nuclear Weapons
The United States considers it unlikely that Russia will use nuclear weapons during its special military operation in Ukraine at this stage. This was stated on Thursday by Avril Haines, the Director of National Intelligence.
“From the perspective of the intelligence community, that is extremely unlikely. That is our current assessment,” said Haines while commenting on the possibility of Russia employing nuclear warheads during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing.
In turn, Lieutenant General Scott Berrier, the director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, who also participated in the hearings, argued that given “the nature of the conflict, there is always that possibility,” referring to the potential use of nuclear weapons.
“But I would say we believe that it is unlikely,” Berrier added.
