France Begins Evacuation of Citizens from Sudan
French authorities have commenced the evacuation of their citizens and embassy staff from Sudan, reports Agence France-Presse, citing the foreign ministry.
Earlier, U.S. President Joe Biden confirmed that American diplomats and their families were evacuated from the U.S. embassy in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, on Saturday. According to U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Bass, up to 100 people were evacuated from the embassy.
“France has begun the urgent evacuation of citizens and diplomatic staff from Sudan,” the agency reports.
It is noteworthy that fighting broke out in Sudan between the Armed Forces and the regular army on April 15.
