Sudanese Regular Army Agrees to Maintain Three-Day Humanitarian Ceasefire

The Sudanese regular army has agreed to maintain a three-day humanitarian ceasefire, local media reports. A representative of the army stated, "The army hopes that the rebels will also cease military operations." Recently, the regular army has referred to the country’s special forces as "rebels." Fierce street battles have erupted between these two forces since April 15 in various parts of Sudan, primarily in the capital Khartoum.

Following the announcement of the ceasefire, media reports indicate that there is relative calm in Khartoum. The Rapid Support Forces of Sudan have also expressed their willingness to partially open the airports under their control to facilitate the evacuation of foreign nationals in the country.

There have been civilian casualties as a result of the clashes. More than 600 people have lost their lives, with thousands injured, including children. Over 130 hospitals have been damaged, and Sudan is facing challenges in receiving humanitarian aid from abroad. The United Nations has warned that if fighting continues, the majority of Sudanese may face starvation due to unavailability of food supplies and rising prices in the country.
