Azerbaijan's Spiritual Leader Comments on Catholicos Garegin II's Statements

Azerbaijan's and, at the same time, the leader of the Caucasian Muslims, Talysh by nationality, Allahshukur Pashazadeh has commented on the statements made by the leader of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Catholicos Garegin II, regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The Catholicos stated that it is beyond doubt that "we will protect the right of the people of Artsakh to live freely and independently." In response, Pashazadeh remarked, "I think the statements of the Armenian Catholicos are unacceptable for a religious leader. Spiritual leaders should call not for war, but for peace. The new calls for war from the Catholicos of Armenia are linked to his becoming a hostage to political ambitions. The interference of religious leaders in politics is wrong. We call on the Armenian Church for friendship."
