Sudan Declares Ceasefire Again

The Sudanese armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have declared a ceasefire once again following an unsuccessful 24-hour ceasefire attempt on Wednesday evening, reports the Associated Press (AP).

"The ceasefire began at 18:00 local time on Wednesday for humanitarian purposes," stated an announcement from the Sudanese military. It is noted that the ceasefire will last until the following evening.

On the fifth day of clashes, it has been reported that at least 270 people have died, with more than 2,600 injured. In the capital city of Sudan, Khartoum, there are power outages, a lack of drinking water and food, and offices and schools are closed. Due to the absence of electricity, hospitals are unable to function normally. In these circumstances, many residents are trying to leave Khartoum.

The situation in Sudan worsened on Saturday when clashes broke out between the military and RSF in Khartoum and several other cities, utilizing heavy weaponry. Statements from the RSF command indicate that the current situation arose after the armed forces besieged one of their outposts in the southern suburbs of Khartoum without any prior notification. In turn, the military command explained its actions by stating that the RSF has recently acted independently of any coordination with the military.
