Baku Responds to Pashinyan's Statements

Baku has responded to the statements made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during today’s cabinet meeting.

“It is entirely unfounded and unacceptable that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan accused Azerbaijan of the recent provocations in the direction of Lachin and of violating commitments made during the meetings in Prague and Sochi,” said the statement from the Press Secretary of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aihan Hajizadeh.

“The fact that, in reference to the statement issued by the European Union the day before, the Prime Minister of Armenia reiterated the idea of using the 1991 border as a basis for delimitation contains a number of biased elements. I want to remind Pashinyan that as a result of the occupation policy initiated by Armenia against Azerbaijan, in 1990, the villages of Kyarki (Armenian name: Tigranashen) and Baghanis Ayrim were occupied by Armenia. At the same time, it is known that contrary to the trilateral statement, Armenia has still not withdrawn its armed formations from Azerbaijani territory and is maintaining occupation over 8 Azerbaijani villages. In this regard, the Prime Minister should first clarify what he means by referring to the 1991 border,” the statement added.
