US Imposes Sanctions on Senior Georgian Judges
The United States has imposed visa sanctions on senior Georgian judges, specifically on four members of the High Council of Justice of Georgia. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has accused them of "significant corruption."
“These individuals have abused their positions as leaders of the Georgian courts and members of the High Council of Justice, undermining the rule of law and public confidence in Georgia’s legal system. The United States continues to support the people of Georgia in strengthening democracy and the rule of law and will hold accountable those who abuse state power for personal gain. We stand with all judges who have the courage and integrity to act impartially and independently,” the statement on the website of the US Embassy in Tbilisi reads.
