Iran Appoints Ambassador to UAE for First Time in Seven Years
Iran has announced that for the first time in seven years, since 2016, it has appointed an ambassador to the UAE amidst a backdrop of shifting relations between Gulf countries and Iran.
This move comes after the UAE took steps in August to improve relations, declaring that it would send its ambassador back to Tehran.
The UAE's relations with Iran deteriorated following Saudi Arabia's severance of ties with Iran in January 2016, after Iranian protesters stormed the Saudi embassy in Tehran in response to the execution of a prominent Shia cleric by Riyadh.
