Azerbaijan Calls on France to Respect Citizens' Rights

Azerbaijan, amid mass protests in France, has called on the authorities of that country to respect the constitutional rights of citizens, particularly the freedoms of thought and assembly, as well as the right to peaceful protests.

According to interfax.az, this statement was made by the press secretary of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aykan Hacizade, in response to local media inquiries regarding the protests occurring in France.

“We believe that the Council of Europe and international human rights organizations should investigate cases of extreme violence in France and demand that this country take the necessary measures within its obligations,” Hacizade stated.

The country calling for respect for citizens' rights, Azerbaijan, has been dispersing protests of its citizens demanding water from the relevant authorities with harsh police measures for several days. They have not spared even minors in their crackdown.

It is noteworthy that France passed a law on March 16 to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. The bill was approved in parliament without a vote, sparking protests across the country.
