Civic Contract Does Not Participate in the Vote to Terminate Constitutional Court Judge Seda Safaryan’s Powers
The Civic Contract faction will not participate in the vote regarding the application to the Constitutional Court to terminate the powers of Constitutional Court Judge Seda Safaryan. This was announced by the head of the Civic Contract faction, Hayk Konjoryan, in the National Assembly.
“We believe that after discussing the issue, participation in the vote is unnecessary, because we do not consider the accusations that have been made to be legitimate,” noted Konjoryan.
He drew attention to the fact that Seda Safaryan informed the State Revenue Committee within the required timeframe about her cessation of activities as an entrepreneur. “This means that Seda Safaryan has duly informed the state that she will no longer engage in legal services. I emphasize that there is no significant violation, and that is why we will not participate in that vote. If there had been a significant violation, we would have been interested in being consistent with the procedures,” Konjoryan concluded.
The Armenia faction has presented a draft decision in the National Assembly proposing to petition the Constitutional Court regarding the termination of the powers of Judge Seda Safaryan. The basis for the draft has been the professional analysis of lawyers Arsen Babayan and Sos Hakobyan, as well as other publications in the media, according to which Seda Safaryan, upon being elected as a Constitutional Court judge, engaged in legal activity.
