All parties are urged to refrain from negative rhetoric: Klaar

The direct communication between the Azerbaijani authorities and the representatives of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh has no alternative, stated Toivo Klaar, the EU special representative for the South Caucasus, in a comment to News.am.

“The start of direct and visible discussions between Baku and the representatives of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh is a step in the right direction, and it should be welcomed. Direct communication has no alternative when it comes to addressing disagreements, which should occur exclusively through negotiations involving all concerned parties,” the European diplomat is quoted as saying.

According to the source, Klaar emphasized that the dialogue should aim at building trust, rather than inflaming confrontation. “All interested parties are urged to refrain from negative rhetoric and focus on finding compromise solutions that address the legitimate concerns of all parties,” said the EU special envoy.

Toivo Klaar also expressed concern regarding ceasefire violations and called for the full restoration of traffic through the Lachin corridor.
