VIDEO: Lavrov on the Lachin Corridor and EU Mission in Armenia
The operation of the Lachin Corridor must be regulated in accordance with the trilateral statement adopted on November 9, 2020. We see how the EU is abusing its relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan, creating legitimate doubts regarding its mission in the region. This statement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a press conference following talks with the head of Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry, Jeyhun Bayramov, in Baku.
"We see how the EU is evidently abusing its relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan, including advancing this so-called mission in Armenia that raises serious doubts from the perspective of legitimacy," he said.
According to Lavrov, this mission raises many questions regarding its functions, mandate, and duration. It is recalled that since February 20, a European mission consisting of 100 personnel has been deployed in Armenia for a two-year mandate. Although the EU mission is considered civilian, 50 of them are gendarmes.
