VIDEO: How Turkey Has Shifted 3-4 Meters - Satellites Capture Geological Movements After Earthquake
Google Earth and the American satellite company Maxar have documented the geological movements resulting from the earthquake in southern Turkey. German seismologist Andreas Schäfer has reported that a horizontal shift of around 3-4 meters has occurred. This was also previously noted by Carlo Doglioni, the president of the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), in an interview with Corriere della Sera.
“The Arabian plate has shifted about three meters northeast-southwest relative to the Anatolian plate. We are speaking about the structural zone between the Arabian and Anatolian plates,” the expert stated. According to Doglioni, “it seems that Turkey has moved southwest.” He described the overall length of the fault as being at least 150 kilometers, stating that “everything happened within a few dozen seconds.”
It is worth remembering that on the morning of February 6, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck southeastern Turkey. The death toll from the earthquake in Turkey has reached 18,342.
