US To Provide Long-Range Missiles to Ukraine for the First Time
Washington is preparing a new military aid package worth $2.2 billion for Kyiv, according to Reuters, citing two U.S. officials.
The officials stated that this package will include long-range missiles for the first time.
Later, the agency clarified that the supply concerns GLSDB (Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb) missiles, which have a range of 150 kilometers.
Announcement about the aid is expected later this week, Reuters reports.
The package will also include supporting equipment for Patriot air defense systems, precision-guided munitions, and Javelin anti-tank weapons.
Adviser to the Ukrainian President Mikhail Podolyak had earlier stated that Kyiv is conducting "rapid" negotiations with the West regarding the transfer of aviation and long-range missiles to Ukraine.
According to him, Ukraine needs such weapons to strike Russian military infrastructure and artillery depots in Crimea.
