European Parliament Adopts Resolution Condemning Azerbaijan's Policy

The European Parliament has adopted a resolution on "A New European Agenda for Culture and the EU's New Strategy for International Cultural Relations." The resolution addresses the protection of cultural values in conflict zones and condemns the targeted destruction of historical, artistic, and cultural heritage during recent conflicts.

Based on an amendment signed by Nathalie Loiseau (France), chair of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Security and Defence, and co-signed by fellow group member Petras Auštrevičius (Lithuania), the resolution clearly criticizes Azerbaijan's ongoing policy aimed at the destruction of Armenian cultural values in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Particularly in point 78 of the resolution, it states: “The European Parliament calls on the Commission to strongly condemn the destruction of historical, artistic and cultural heritage during recent conflicts, as well as the systematic and politically or ideologically motivated targeting of historical, artistic and cultural heritage. The European Parliament also calls on the Commission to strongly condemn the radical annihilation of the identity and culture of sovereign states, nations or minorities, including Azerbaijan's ongoing policy of destroying and denying Armenian cultural heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh and its surrounding areas.”
