US House of Representatives Fails to Elect Speaker Again
The US Congress's House of Representatives has once again failed to elect a new speaker following the results of a third round of voting.
Republican leader Kevin McCarthy was unable to secure majority support, while his main competitor, Democrat Hakeem Jeffries, garnered 212 votes. McCarthy, despite his party's control over the House of Representatives, could only accumulate 202 votes. To win, one must receive 218 votes.
As a result, the newly formed House of Representatives ended the day without having begun its work. The selection of a speaker will continue tomorrow.
