Greece Responds to Turkey's Threats
The official representative of the Greek government, Yiannis Economou, stated during a press briefing today that Athens will not abandon its sovereign rights in the Aegean Sea, according to RIA Novosti.
As Economou noted, the Greek government acts in accordance with international law and based on its interests. He emphasized, “Our country is a strong nation striving for stability, which does not retreat on issues related to national interests and sovereignty. Our country does not need to be threatened and intimidated; we are not ordered around, especially on national matters.”
This statement comes in response to remarks made by Turkey’s Minister of Defense Hulusi Akar and the Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin regarding Greece's plans to extend its territorial waters by 12 nautical miles. Previously, Akar accused Greece of continuing provocative actions.
